The Host Church
The host church placement is the most essential element of the scheme; it is a priority that the placement and participant are well matched. A huge amount of energy is put into this from the outset. It is hoped that participants will add to the spiritual life of the parish, bring an extra pair of willing hands, encourage dynamism in areas of church and develop new ministries.
Placements vary in their distinctiveness, ranging from a general experience and involvement in parish life, to a specific focus in one area of parish ministry that may have been requested by the parish, or participant. Please note that placement churches have to be within the Diocese of Portsmouth. |
Each Discovery Gap Year Host Church provides:
The scheme offers training and support for line managers and mentors, but it is important to consider carefully who these roles will be undertaken by. The line manager is someone willing to direct the participant, offering constructive feedback and helping to articulate tasks. The mentor is someone who takes the role as a trusted friend and confidant to walk alongside the participant during the scheme to help them reflect on their experiences. |
